Focusing on circular material flows

In our Sustainability Roadmap, the various focus areas work together to propel us toward our vision of becoming a market leader in sustainable business. An example of this is the Group's work with circular solutions, which deliver the most impact when implemented in collaboration with our customers. One standout example of this approach can be seen in the initiatives of Cipax.

Efficient solutions for reducing carbon emissions

As sustainability and reduced carbon emissions become increasingly important to customers, Cipax positions itself as a key player in the transition. By offering products that enable a 75–80% reduction in carbon emissions when using recycled materials instead of primary materials, Cipax helps make environmentally sustainable choices both visible and relevant to its customers.

Sustainability at every stage of the value chain

Cipax has taken a comprehensive approach to the production chain to identify where the greatest environmental gains can be achieved. These initiatives include:

  • Using recycled materials: The products from Cipax's own range that are made from recycled materials maintain the same high quality and durability as those made from primary materials, but with significantly lower carbon footprints.
  • Industrial reuse: Cipax has set an ambitious target to recycle 125 tonnes of material in 2025 by circulating its own industrial waste, further reducing the need for primary raw materials.
  • Carbon calculations: Using a third-party-verified calculation tool, Cipax provides customers with detailed insights into the carbon footprint of their products - from raw materials and transport to the finished product.

Clear differences in climate emissions

To raise awareness of the benefits of recycled materials, Cipax offers comparisons of carbon footprints from cradle to gate. This makes the climate-related advantages of choosing recycled materials tangible for customers.

Beyond the lifecycle emissions from raw material extraction to the finished product, Cipax also highlights differences in transportation emissions based on geographic origin. For example, a product manufactured in Estonia can have significantly lower transport-related emissions than one produced in China - information Cipax shares with its customers.

Challenges and opportunities: Shaping customer decisions and meeting future demands

Despite the environmental benefits, the shift to recycled materials can be slow. Many customers expect recycled materials to come at a lower cost, even though the climate benefits are substantial. Cipax actively engages with its customers to shift the focus from price to the sustainability advantages.

“We can see a growing awareness about recycled materials as essential for realising set climate goals. Companies will increasingly need to prioritise this in their strategic decisions”, says Lars-Erik Anderson, Managing Director of Cipax in Sweden.

Looking ahead, Cipax is exploring the opportunity to reclaim end-of-life products and turn them into new products. To make this a reality, effective systems and collaborations in the market are essential. Another XANO Group company, Pioner Boat in Norway, has already made significant progress in this area, and Cipax views this as a natural step for future production.

Aligned with the Group's shared goal of reducing our climate impact, Cipax has a clear vision: to help customers reduce their climate footprint and make sustainable choices easier. By clearly illustrating differences in environmental impact and offering solutions for a circular economy, Cipax takes an active role in driving both the Group's and the industry’s sustainability efforts forward.
