SUSTAINING THE PLANET
Accepting responsibility for our impact on the climate and environment is a crucial part of our path forward. Under the Sustain the Planet pillar, we bring together our efforts to reduce climate emissions, use resources more efficiently, and transition towards a more circular way of operating.
Our work is driven by four focus areas: sustainable materials, energy consumption, transportation, and waste as a resource. By increasing the use of sustainable materials, switching to more renewable energy sources, improving transport efficiency, and making better use of production residuals, we are taking concrete steps towards lower climate impact.
The challenges vary across different parts of our operations – but the ambition is shared. With clear targets and milestones leading up to 2030, we are working systematically to contribute to a more sustainable society and, ultimately, to preserve the planet we all depend on.
The Group's environmental work is also governed through our Environmental Policy.
FOCUS AREAS
-
The use of more sustainable materials is an important part of our efforts to reduce our climate impact. The category of purchased goods and services accounts for the majority of the Group’s emissions, making it a highly prioritised area. We aim to increase the share of materials and components with a lower environmental footprint, while also considering factors such as function, quality and durability.
-
By making a shift towards a greater share of renewable energy sources and improving the efficiency of our processes, we aim to reduce emissions linked to energy consumption. The conditions vary depending on the nature of operations and geographical location, but the goal remains the same – to gradually reduce our footprint and contribute to a more sustainable energy use over time.
-
By streamlining logistics, choosing more climate-smart modes of transport and reviewing how we travel for business, we aim to reduce emissions related to both goods flows and passenger transport. The goal is to gradually make our transport activities more sustainable and thereby contribute to a lower climate impact across the entire business.

RECYCLABLE LIGHTWEIGHTS
Using a new method, lightweight products are being created from a 100% recyclable plastic material. The lightweight variants, which can replace some of a vehicle’s plastic parts, are generating many benefits. In addition to the positive environmental aspect, the method entails a reduction in weight, higher sound absorption capacity and better heat insulation for the products.

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL WORK CREATING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
The collaboration between Fredriksons and Alfa Laval was launched in 2011 on the basis of an international convention initiated by the UN’s shipping organisation, the IMO. This convention, which has been signed by 47 countries around the world and must be complied with by the member states, is creating benefits for the environment as well as opening the door to new business opportunities.
